Our first attempt at incubating Pekin/Magpie mix ducklings. Using a LG. Candled on day 25 and all looked good. Started lockdown on day 28. It's now day 30 and nothing is happening. Temp consistent at 98.6. Humidity has been difficult to control, but primarily at 65-70%. Will they hatch? How long do we wait? Thanks!

After reading some of these posts, I listened closely and can hear at least one duckling chirping even before there's been any pipping! I didn't know this was possible! I'm SO excited! I hope this means they'll hatch soon!!!

Incubator temperature should be more like 99.5 F, so if it has been that low that might be why they are late in hatching. Lower temps will delay hatch times.

If you are hearing them peep, they are internally pipped and should mean you will see ducklings in the next couple of days. Ducklings take their time hatching, so be patient! You should see some external pips about 24 hours after they have internally pipped. Then they will rest again and should start hatching the rest of the way out after about another day.

This morning, she externally pipped! Slow progress, but progress! The other 4 eggs have shown no activity.

Great to hear one is externally pipped! How is she doing today? Making progress? Any others doing anything yet?

You won't want to open the incubator to check on the others while the first one is externally pipped (will drop your humidity fast and possibly shrink wrap her), so you'll just have to wait patiently for any signs that the others are working in there as well.

One duckling hatched at 1:00am Weds!
Second one zipped about an hour ago and is working really hard to get out!
A third one externally pipped yesterday and has its beak out, but isn't zipping. Hoping she's not stuck!

3 ducklings happily waddling about! Two look like papa, a Pekin, and one looks like mama, a Magpie! Those poor little duckies sure worked hard to get out of the shell! Had to help the little magpie a bit - really tiny!
