I Have a group of young chicks, approx 5 weeks old and mostly feathered- who have been living in my mud room, in a large horse trough. Weather seems to be warming up now, so I'd like to get them into the barn/coup w the rest (I will have them totally segregated from the laying hens until full grown).

The day temps are 65-70 projected going forward and lows at night 40-50. Per all the weather reports, I highly doubt we see freezing temps anymore til this fall.

Do you think that is warm enough for them?

I usually wait until at least 6 weeks but it depends on Temps at night.. I think 40 is still to cold at 5 weeks. Good luck with what ever you decide.

I'm in AL, so mine have been out since week 2 with a heat mat. All heat has been removed for a week or two and they are 5-6 weeks now. Our days are 70s and nights were 50s/60. We'll be in the upper 40s this weekend one night and I'm not concerned even though there are only 2 of them. They are now out in the big girl house separated from the resident chicken.

If you are concerned about night time temps, you can put them out with some source of heat still.
