So I just got my first two chickens...I decided to get them already laying...white sexlink...let the kids name them...never allow this to happen because their names end up being Juan and Two...the next 4 I pick up on Thursday...thought this would be a good way to make everything works good!

Here they are! I live near a livestock auction house...as soon as I set them free in their new home a run away rooster showed up...crazy! I have no idea what kind of rooster he is...smaller than both of my new hens! Off to a good start! Can't wait to get my first eggs!

It is very exciting! I have yet to eat an egg because my wife keeps thieving them after I go to work and eating them...so I have yet to taste sweet success, but in 3 days I've gotten 5 beautiful eggs and can easily see my time and investment paying off...started out with building a 4x6 coop for appx. $28 of screws latches and a door handle and lots of spare or donated wood from friends and neighbors. Spent $10 on a bucket and watering nipples, And then $40 in laying hen feed, crack corn, oyster shells and a bale of pine shavings. The first two hens cost me delivering a few goats for a friend- so basically free. And the other 4 I pick up tomorrow will cost me $40. So everything combined I've invested $118 total. never to buy eggs again! Even just breaking even makes it worthwhile...

Here is a pic of my chickens and their coop...ill post more later after I pick up my other four today...
