I picked up my 15 Pheonix chicks from the post office this morning, they were shipped late Monday evening from Mccmurray Hatchery, I prepared their brooder last night so I put them in & let them relax. I checked on them an hour later after they settled down & noticed one was pecking another's eye, I picked up the bullied chick to see that it's eyelid was red, shut & maybe slightly swollen too. One eye is not as bad as the other, it can open the good one. I have him in a smaller box with food & water but that box is in the brooder so he can hear & see the others. I'm not sure what else to do. :( I'm worried it could be some sort of disease/virus. :( They were vaccinated for Coccidiosis & Mareks, and screened and cleared of some other diseases. I have them on non-medicated feed as to not cancel out the vaccines.
I have 25 two month old chicks outside in a coop & run & I don't want to risk them getting sick.
Should I call the hatchery? Here are photos of the eyelid. Thank you in advance

Looks like your baby got a black eye from someone.

You could apply a dab of Neosporin to it to ward off any infection, but it sounds like you're doing all you can.

Just watch it and make sure it continues eating and drinking. :) Should clear up in a short while.

Aw is that what it is? The others wouldn't stop picking at the eyes. After a few hours now alone he's starting open his bad eye. Hes drinking water but I haven't seen him eat yet.

Drinking is always more important than food.

Yeah, it looks like bruising. Poor little guy (or girl!)... I hope he makes a speedy recovery. :)

Just watch for any oozing, crusting, bleeding, or hunching/puffing and going off food and water... otherwise, it should clear up with minimal intervention.

You were wise to separate!

I agree, it looks like a normal booboo, and not something disease related. If it persists you can do a cold compress by wetting a paper towel with cold water and holding it on his eye, but if he's opening it and it looks like he's recovering I'd just leave it alone and let it heal on it's own.

Well now the baby has stopped eating and drinking. Poo built up on its bum and I tried to clean it off this morning. I don't know what I'm going to do. Not sure if I should have my brother relieve it's suffering. God knows I don't have the heart.
