IF YOU READ THIS PLEASE HELP ME PLEASE

Hey, please farmers help me out.. he's just a baby.. still yellow.. My baby roo is about 3 weeks old and he closes his eyes all day and sleeps.. i was wondering if this is cocci.. i've had him for four days so idk how they treated him prior to this or what he caught before then... He doesn't poop any blood but they say some birds don't always poop blood.. They also say if you have cocci you die in four days and he's still alive so i'm doubting whether its cocci or not.. Here's his poop today.. i'm very worried he has his tail down and keeps his eyes closed nearly ALL DAY.. He can open them and he does whenever he eats.. But i'm still worried..







i'm also wondering if it's not cocci because both his hock's are injured and he can't walk.. They were very swollen and purple when i first got him but they started turning red, yesterday one was red so i decided to wrap them both with vet wrap and vet tape.. He used to be able to move around but after i tried to wrap both his legs (which i did completely wrong) he now can't move at all... and when he does by himself he chirps in pain.. i feel horrible guys. he's on my mind 24/7.. he woke up worse today and it's all my fault for trying to play doctor wrapping his legs with vet wrap and tape.. i've skipped school and stayed home with him these past two days.. Please help me fellow farmers i'm a newbie i don't want him to die.. his poop is light green and yellowish with mucus on it i know he's not okay cause my older roosters don't poop like that.. here's his poop from yesterday









Please guys you all have so much experience and here in the city the vets don't take chickens and the ones that do just want money and don't care.. All the vets around here will do is hurt his legs some more checking them out.. i wish one of you guys could help me i feel so alone and sad about whats happening to him, my heart literally feels broken..

You are correct in that not every Coccidiosis patient has blood in the poop. Green poop can stem from them not eating enough or not being hydrated. Green poop can come from intestinal bacterias or the E.coli/yeast imbalance in the intestinal tract. It can also mean liver disease or a multitude of cancers. Being so young, I doubt he has liver or cancer issues at this time. So lets assume he is not eating or drinking enough, which is a symptom of Coccidiosis.

As for his inured hocks, do not wrap them. You will only cause more distress to the bird and the circulation. Keep him in a place with no roosting bars and soft bedding of some sort. I would keep him confined until he is able to walk and defend himself as well. I would keep him in a cage among the entire flock as well so that he is easier to mix back in.

It is very possible he does have Coccidiosis, although many times we can only guess. BUT...the meds are easy enough to use and are not anything that will harm him. Go to your local feed store and get some Corid or something with Amprolium in it. All Amprolium is, is a Thiamine blocker to prevent the Cocci from reproducing. You should see improvement within the first 48 hours. If by the 3rd day he is not improving, it is possible he has something else wrong with him. I would also get some yogurt into his system to help keep up the good bacteria and yeast in his intestines. If your nights are still cold, I would offer up a heat lamp. Sick birds get cold and don't heal well.

Coax him to eat what EVER he will eat, even if that is soda cracker and meal worms. Anything to keep him eating. Wet foods like watermelon, grapes, greens, things with a lot of water will help keep him hydrated. Don't worry if he is not eating chicken feed for now, he will return when he is healed.

thank you so much for your help.. he eats, i'm only feeding him corn.. he also drinks alot of water which is why i doubted it was cocci.. i bought some corrid online last night and payed alot extra to get same day shipping




but then after it arrived i got scared and didn't give it to him cause i didn't know if it would do him harm if it turned out he didn't have it.. since you have to do it for five days straight and then give him vitamins to get him back up.. i don't have any vitamins, or pobiotics or yogurt. i've just been feeding him blended corn since regular corn is too big for him to chew i blended it on my blender and he eats it like that.. He sleeps with me in my room, i was gonna put him on my bed but since he's so hurt i didn't. i took a box and an old sleeping blanket and placed him next to my bedside.. i don't have a heat lamp but i turn my heater on alot of the day so he'll feel warm.. during the day i take him out of the box place him on a rug and put him under the window to see sunlight.. his head's down all day i feel so bad cause he wasn't like this yesterday before i wrapped his hocks i regret doing it so much... he's in extreme pain now.. and his neck's drooped forward.. am i doing right? should i just leave him in the box all day and move him around like that? Do you know of anything i can do to help him? do i just leave the hocks alone eventhough they're swollen up? thank you so much for your help i really appreciate it

If all you are feeding him is corn, he very well could be dying from vitamin deficiencies. He needs to be on a poultry diet. He is a growing baby with no place to get nutrients. His muscles will become weak, no doubt developing wry neck, his brain will not develop, nor will his immune system. His organs will become damaged if they aren't already. These are the most important months of his life and a diet of corn will kill him.

I wouldn't bother with this Corid. He needs poultry food. If you don't have any today, cook up some hard boiled eggs. He can live on those until you get him some chick starter. No more corn. He needs vitamins as well. Get some sort of poultry vitamins or human baby vitamins will work just as well. Poly Vi Sol without Iron will do wonders for him. He will die on this diet of corn and soon.

thank you so much for letting me know that.. he's already asleep for the night so i'll begin everything tomorrow.. i'm gonna try and take steal my moms credit card and order everything overnight so it'll all be here by morning.. i'll feed him hard boiled eggs from morning tomorrow until the feed gets here.. what type of feed should i get him? can you tell me brands and things i should buy for him, like all that probiotic stuff or a yogurt brand and how to get protein into him.. i'm sorry i don't know much.. our roosters were raised on vegetables and fruits but this chick's too young and doesn't want to eat any.. i'll buy poly vi sol tonight and anything else you tell me.. i have these vitamins eventhough i haven't given him some.. i'm gonna get the poly vi sol still just incase, since you said that would really help..



what brand of feed should i buy? do you know a yogurt brand? about his hocks do i just not do anything? i'm so worried i had no idea i myself was contributing to him feeling sickish.. i have to act now and quick.. please tell me what i should buy for him

Those vitamins will work just fine. Follow the directions on the bottle. Any brand of poultry "Chick Starter" will work good for him. Chick Starter has all that growing babies need to develop properly. Eggs have all the building blocks of life in them, so feed him eggs until you get him some poultry food. You can hard boil them or scramble them. No salt, milk or anything added to the eggs...just plain eggs. Clean up what he doesn't eat in 10 mins so they don't grow bacteria. And get these vitamins into him. I take it they go into his water? Make sure he gets drinking this stuff as soon as possible. When you get him poultry feed, let him free feed as much as he will eat...just leave it out for him to eat all day long on. Keep him on this starter feed for several months. Then graduate him to a "Flock Raiser" type feed. Just go to your feed store and ask for Chick Starter for now.

is this feed fine? i bought him one of these.. so now i'll feed him that all the time from now on for two months and continue to give him some of the vitamin in his water...




about his hocks what should i do for them to heal? do i just leave them alone? and let him move as he wants.. i'm gonna skip school again because i can't find myself to leave him alone.. i just want to see him heal i'm so down about this..thank you so much again for your advise and help.. thanks to you i realized things about health and what to feed him.. all i can do now is pray he makes it through this with me.. can he die from his hocks not healing?

Yes that feed is perfect. Try to coax him to eat today, this is new food and might take a while for him to learn to enjoy. Dampen it today with a bit of water so he becomes more interested in it, chickens love damp feed. Keep him on this feed till he is 6 months old.
