Last night our lovely rooster was sleeping on the ground instead of the roost. He and a few others occasionally do this so I didn't think anything of it. However, this morning he cannot move! He is keeping his neck tucked in and he stumbles when he tries to move. I tried gently massaging him to see if I could find out what was bothering him and it seems like his left leg is injured. He cannot seem to bring it forward and it's just kind of stuck back. It's also not bending very well at the hock and his toes don't curl when I stretch it like the other foot does. He is a very large bird and moving around on one leg is not possible for him. Please help! He is my baby and I can't stand to see him suffering!

I've seen people making slings for chickens out of a box and an old shirt with holes for the feet. That could keep him off his feet until he heels maybe. If you google chicken slings you might come up with some pictures.

Sorry about your rooster. Is he the only rooster? How old is he? Was he vaccinated for Mareks disease? Can you see any swelling, redness, or bruising on his foot or leg? I would crate him with food and water, and you also could use a sling inside the crate if you wish.

Hi Gary, Sorry I don't have any sebrights right now. I used to have them when I was a kid and used the name for all of my online usernames, hence the misspelling!
