Is there such a thing as a quiet breed of rooster?

I ask because the main limitation on chickens in my city is that they can't be noisy. I wouldn't mind having a rooster to guard my hens and allow me to hatch out eggs occasionally, but a noisy Roo would probably get me in trouble. Is there a breed known for being less vocal?

I've never had a problem with loud hens, they only tend to crow when they're stressed out for some reason.
 
It depends a lot on housing and how far away the neighbors are. When I'm in my house I can't hear roosters crowing and I've had as many as 10 or more.
As for which breeds are quieter, I've only had about 10 or so breeds so don't consider that enough of an example.
Dogs, radios, lawn mowers, weed eaters, etc. are louder than roosters.
I do try to keep the roosters in the coops till after 8 AM and that seems to help.
My 2 closest neighbors didn't even know I had chickens.
 
a quite rooster ? i don't know if there's one..

they will not allow rooster in the city for a reason since the houses are pretty close to each other..

allowed or not allowed aside.. but if you bring a rooster in you have to deal with the noise ordinance.

there are people who work night shift.. lack of sleep will make people cranky
 
A quiet rooster is usually sick or under the watchful eye of the dominant rooster who will crow like no tomorrow.. All healthy roosters crow like the dickens!
 
Good to know. I kind of figured as much. I could maybe get away with it in my neighborhood, but I guess why risk pissing off the neighbors?

true.

you have to understand that your rights will end when they infringed on the rights of others

if they keep calling the police because of the noise.. you might loose more than just your rooster..

beside.. unless you are planning to move away soon.. i would try to get along with your neighbors
