We received these chicks through a class. She said SR just because she grabbed two and that's what we got! All super healthy. I am new to chickens and I already love them soooo much! I was unaware how to sex them. It's a bummer because out other had the washed out head features along with the lack of eyeliner while this one - to my eyes - look very clear! I love how much I learn from day to day!If you get a good line of Welsummers, they are autosexing.
As chicks, the females will have a clear, dark, head triangle with deep eyeliner. The males will have a fuzzier looking head color and faint or non-existent eyeliner.
Poorly kept lines and hatchery quality blur those distinctions, but a well bred Welsummer is clear from hatch as to gender. Most times you can tell with feed store quality.
