International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Hi all! I thought I would just drop in and share a picture of my F2 Olive egger pullets. First gen was cream legbar x welbar. Second gen was obviously BCM over the first gen pullets. I'm happy with the way they look. Hoping for some gorgeous Olive eggs!

they look great!

do you keep OE pullets only or you breed OE cockerels with OE pullets? I cannot understand how to get clear green eggs in F3 from the chart.

I did not have luck with hatching other marans. 2 eggs infertile, 1 hatched but had leg issues and died (probably inbred) and 2 developed but had sticky fluid in air cell. they were set under a broody.

a few months ago the same thing happened when my friend put my marans eggs in incubator. 1 chick hatched but could not dry as that fluid was as sticky as glue. she washed it but the chick lived a few days only.

any idea what causes this fluid in air cell?

Thank you! I only keep the pullets. The cockerels grow up with the same similar shape but with a barred feather pattern, getting the copper infused hackle and saddle feathers as they age (they're actually pretty cool looking). I don't have plans to move forward to F3 Olive eggers. These girls will probably just join in to my ameraucana pen when I seperate breeds to make Easter eggers. Then, when people get chicks, they will have beards and muffs, possibly crests, and definitely lay some shade of blue or green eggs.

sorry to hear your troubles .
I have no idea about this sticky fluid .
seem to me the breeder are lucking some vitamin .B12 complex or Cod liver oil in they diet .
could be from inbreeding too.

Thank you, I wish I could but I did ask her permission before I released her name online and she politely declined, so I have to respect that. She prefers to stay small and relatively unknown. She did allow me to say that back in the day when she started breeding her roosters came from Grisham, Wade Jeane & Bev Davis. Her hens were Wade Jeane, Bev Davis.
Thank you for enjoying my chicks, I truly appreciate it and hope to produce some quality, beautiful birds from this starter flock.

OE never give a same result because of the different parents stock peoples use to make them .

keep trying tell you get what you are looking for.
