No air cell?

The cabinet bator sold

. I knew it would, it was just a gorgeous piece of equipment history..... I'm not sure how many it held - a whole bunch! Even Emu eggs!

Well, you're doing better than I am! 7 of 18 is way better than 2 or 3 of 19

I candled everything last night (day 9) and only saw 1 definite live chick and maybe 2 other possible chicks.

I give up. Hatching is for the birds

Aw shucks. It sounded like a great incubator.
My chickens are only 2-3 months old, but if I had a broody available that would definitely also be a first choice. At least it's been a learning experience! Now I can only hope any that hatch are actually pullets

Update: At first I was complaining about no air cell, now I have these huge saddle shaped ones in at least 2 or 3 out of the 6 still in there.

Some look like they take up half the space. I think I'd be lucky to have any hatch at all!

Will continue to update for anyone reading.

I had to take a hiatus to go lambing for a bit - now we're done with that, I'm back to birds! LOL....

I had the same thing happen, huge saddles in a few of the first batch. This current group, in lockdown, didn't have much of that... I have 8 in there now, but I think only 2-3 looked viable at day 14. We'll see..... Tomorrow night is the start of day 21

This evening is day 20 for me, 2 pips so far! One has pipped the wrong end probably due to the wonky air cell. My humble DIY bator isn't the greatest at holding humidity so I'll be up various hours of the night adding water.

One out, and another pip! The wrong end one hasn't made any progress, it keeps pecking at the same hole.

Last update. 4 out of 18 hatched. Two that made it to lockdown were fully developed, one was very deformed though and the other I don't know why, didn't pip internally or externally.

2 EEs and 2 SLWs hatched. One of the SLWs had a deformed skull, one eye missing/sunken and the other bulging/unable to open. Scissor beak already very obvious. Not able to walk very well as he was pretty much blind. He mostly slept, didn't eat or drink, and we decided he wouldn't have a very good quality of life, unfortunately had to cull.

RIP Quasimodo </3

Now we have 3 beautiful chicks. We'll keep any females, give away any males. I've learned a lot this hatch, thanks everyone and anyone who took their time to read or give advice.
