The EMERGENCY Thread!!!

this was the only abnormal looking poop I've seen which was late afternoon yesterday.

Quote: You may want to take a fecal sample to your vet for a fecal float test. The Wazine that you gave them only treats for roundworms. Both poops look a bit "off" to me. The foamy yellow one could be worms, the first one with the red in it -- the white hair looking things (worms?)

Now this came out of my silver Hmong

in my flock poop like this means worms. I had different worms especially tapeworms. the only wormer that worked for my hens was dog wormer CANIQUANTEL PLUS, 500 mg of febendazole and 5 mg praziquantel (each pill is meant for 10 kg of body weight, so 1/4 for smaller birds and 1/2 for bigger ones). tapeworms that we have here can be killed with praziquantel only.

Thank you! I did read in other posts that the wazine only treated a small variety of warms. Last time I contacted a few local veterinarians they did not offer float tests of fowl feces. Which is alarming in the wine country where most housing is rural ranches. I will do more calling around today and keep you posted for better identification in future. And yes, like I said I am analyzing their stools daily since day one I got my first hen in April. It's ironically fun for me, I enjoy my flock and therefore also enjoy reading what I can and learning more about these fun feathered fowls. So although I may not be able to identify precisely what's going on or how to treat, I do know these are not normal stools. Especially for my flock. Thank you all again! I very much appreciate all your advice and will keep you posted!

Hello, I had posted earlier about my hen that had sour crop.

We'll, she's been drinking a lot of water, and we have been feeding her a mixture of baking soda and baby applesauce to treat her toxic crop contents. It has been a week since I first noticed she was "off". 2 days ago her breath smelled like rotten salami or onions. Since giving her the baking soda mixture, her breath had improved. Today I finally got her to vomit. It was grayish tan in color, with grass in it. Upon further inspection, I also found a half of an almond. Could this have been an impaction? I don't know if I got all of the contents out, but should I start feeding her something? It's been a week, and all she has had is about a tablespoon of baby applesauce a day for the past 3 days.
I've included a photo of the largest particles I found in her vomit, along with an insulin syringe for size comparison.

Update: 14 days later! I have been treating my BO hen for sour/blocked crop for 14 days. My kids came home from school today and found THIS in the garage. I've been letting the hen wander in the garage during the day, she passed this somehow. How did this rope of grass get through the entire digestive tract without being broken down at all?

Is she still alive?

Anything else you can tell us? Laying? Other ducks in the flock? Venomous insects or animals in your area? Weather? Type of food and how often she has it available? Moldy straw? Rattling noise? Possible injury?

Hi Amiga....
I cared and hand fed her for the past 2/3 days. She was getting very thin.
Pingu was 1 of 12 ducks and 20 chickens... all free range but we have had sooooo much rain and flooding this past week, on top of a 7.8 earthquake.
I'm not sure how long she was like this, but I noticed the day after the floods
We are in Wellington New Zealand, and don't really have any poisonous insects or animals.
I have put down pallets everywhere for them to sit on and walk along, so that the girls aren't sitting in the water, unless they want to.
I have a mixed flock of ducks and hens.
I feed them morning and afternoon, with plenty of fresh greens, fruit and vegetables to supplement their diet of mixed grain, layer pellets, oats and cooked rice.
I nearly always add diatomaceous earth to their food and bedding.
Pingu had a loud "huffing' sound as she breathed out. I thought she was starting to get better, but I put her into a look warm bath ... she passed within 5mins of being in the bath.
I feel like I was over zealous to her detriment. She passed quickly and I without a struggle about 7hrs ago.
I put her to rest in the garden and planted a lavender over her remains.

Oh, it is so difficult to know what's going on internally. Please don't blame yourself. Drei appeared to be getting better just before she died, too.

It may have been aspergiliosis, a fungal lung disease. Sad for your loss.
