I have easier birds before so I am not really new I live in Kansas City Missouri and I own 7 acres I have a lot of free time and I am home every day and I have been thinking about raising a pheasant as a pet I can set up a 20 square foot pen right in my back yard it's just that I don't know we're to but a single chick most sites have a minimum of 30 any links for websites that sell pheasant chicks or any local breeders in my area? Please help
 
Howdy! Welcome to BYC. If you have the space a 10' x10' enclosure would be better. Also, single birds don't seem to thrive, they do much better in pairs or trios. What species of pheasant you plan to raise will also determine what size enclosure, habitat, and feeding requirements you will need to provide. I can't help you with breeders in your area but Tony, a member on this site, could most likely put you in touch with breeders in your area. HTH
 
Thank you for replying! I was just wanting the basic ringnecked pheasant, if possible two females because I don't think my near nabors would like me if I had a male I am researching the recuirements now for the ringnecked pheasant and if you can tell tony to message me
 
All pheasants only make the most noise is during breeding season,Jan- march.After that they do call but no wheres near as during breeding season.
If you planning on ringnecks a 10x 10 is not enough room for a pair.These birds are cannibals and if stressed about anything they start to fight wharever is around them.Plus with ringnecks you would want to run 1 male to 5 or 6 hens because they are so aggressive when breeding.This helps the hens because he is not beating on 1 hen all the time.
You would also have to check with your local fish and game as a permit is likely to raise them.

I researched the permit but in Missouri there is a wildlife hobby permit that I am getting I'm probly not going to adopt a bird until spring so that gives me time to get the permit and build the encloser. Are there any books or websites that give info on pheasant species like how aggressive, what they eat, housing requirements and flock sizes?
 
gbwf.org is a good start for species, habitat, nesting, and distinguishing features of various species. Pheasants of the World, other sites on the net...just google.

Excellent place.Looks like it may not be around much longer,Dan has lost the fire and is triing to sell the site or domain whatever they sell.

Yeah, Tony it's ashame. Dan is exteremly knowledgeble. No one seems to be posting on it anymore or supporting his site. There were alot of experinced breeders on the site and would freely give advice and their knowledge of various species of birds they raised. So sad!
 
I don't see the site for sale on there any more.Did he change his mind?I hope so,that is an excellent site that I visit numerous times thru out the day.Doesn't have the post that it use to have,I don't know why it changed but would be very sad to see it go away.A lot of experience top breeders put a lot of pointers for everyone to enjoy.
