I took in two new chickens this week and while they look like Welsummers, they lay tinted colored eggs; very light brown. After researching different breeds, I'm at a loss for these two girls. They've laid everyday since I brought them home on Wednesday, but they are very flighty; beautiful birds though. There were four others too, who looked the same, just lighter in color.

Thank you for the quick reply! I had wondered that last night as I was looking through breeds, but the person who took two of the others, told me it looked like a Welsummer. I didn't question her until I saw the eggs. So thank you for the confident reply! :) They had came from a person who could no longer care for his chickens and needed good homes. I'm blessed to find they are great layers! Definitely happy with both of them.

The coloring is the same as a Welsummer, but many birds come in that same color. Brown Leghorns are the first that come to mind. But, there's more to the bird than color. I agree your hens look like little game birds. they'll make good broody mommas if you're so inclined to hatch chicks this spring.

Nah, I'm not interested in hatching chicks, but thank you for the info. I will pass that along to the people who took the other four. Good to know! :)
