We have decided after much research to raise hens but the township says we need 3 acres of land to do so and we only have just under a half. We are looking to have 6-8 hens, no roosters and would like to have the ordinance changed. A variance is $800 so thats quite a bit and helps noone else. On our way to the Township building we pass 2 homes witch chickens and less land than us. Its sort of a have them until some one complains set up but I want to build a nice coop and run and I would hate to waste all that money and time. Any help or support would be great.

Good luck!!! I hope you succeed!!!! GOOOOO CHICKENS!!!!!!!!!!!

Stop and talk to the folks you mentioned. See if you can accomplish BYC as they have. One thing to consider is if you are willing to spend time and effort to get "legal" permission, then maybe the "JDI" ( Just do it) method works. Let them ( beaurocrats) bring the battle to you. If no one cares ( complains) then all is well. If you are intent on the legal pronouncement, pay your respects to a federal judge and get your Constitutional back up.
