Hi all. My coworker offered some chicks to us that her mom has and she said she has Rhode Island reds.... uhhhhh so we are picking them up tomorrow but she sent me these pics today. She's confused why there are so many difffernt colors too and I think it's because the parents are not reds or atleast both aren't... I would like one of each color (white, black and beige/orange), but would like to know the breed. Sex links? Orphingtons? I'll try to get a pic or the parents tomorrow.

Also, side note, my husband is turned offf by the white thinking the hen will be constantly dirty. True? Thanks! We are new to this whole chicken thing!

No idea on breeds, but I'd say the black birds are probably some sort of Mediterranean type (leghorn/minorca) due to the smaller size and higher tails. No RIR there that I can see, they'd be a much deeper red, and no sex links as I can see both pullets and cockerels in the bunch. The buff coloured birds do look like Orpingtons (short tails and broad bodies) but it's early to tell. They all look nice and healthy to me anyway.

I've never had a problem with white hens getting dirty, and they all live on a working farm. Chickens in general tend to be quite fastidious about grooming themselves. The only problems I've ever had is with feathered legged birds getting muddy boots.

It looks like there are Buff Orpingtons, and the white ones could be White Rocks. The black ones look like bantams.

The only time I've had problems with white chickens staying clean is on rainy days.

Thank you both. So these are the parents. The rooster is dark brown/red in the front and darker/black in the tail.

I can't see that the color combinations produced would come from those colored parents. Maybe the woman just hatched other breed(fertile eggs) under her hen???

The only time I have seen dirty white chickens is when their yard is flooded and muddy. Even then, when they dry off, most of the mess will fall off, and chicken preening removes the rest.

Of course if chickens live in dirty coops, are severely overcrowded I imagine they could look and smell pretty bad.

Yea. So that's the only rooster and the hens that layed. My coworker just called me and her brother told her they are just mixed...so we'll have mutts. Lol. Thanks for the help! We got one of each color
