Crele color question

Read back through this thread and let me know if you got the barring gene figured out how it works and how it is sex linked.

I do get it, it's the same as agouti coat pattern in rabbits. Maybe I have misunderstood something you have said. I'm not expecting crele out of first generation breeding, I would assume they would be a split

Such as
Cuckoo roo can pass on barring to both sexes or it can pass on 1 barring gene and 1 self black (not sure what birds call it)
Cuckoo hen only passes on barring to males

Crele is partridge with barring gene. I just don't know what would be the best route to take if I can't just buy crele.

So it seems like I could make crele from breeding Roo cuckoo to Partridge hen and then taking daughters back to the father. But I could just be fully confused. I really need a good book on the subject but can't seem to find one.

Yes bred a cuckoo rooster to partridge hen.
If he is double barred all chicks will be barred.
If he is single barred 1/2 the chicks will be barred.
All chicks will carry extended black and partridge. They will look black not partridge.

You cant bred pullets back to rooster. He has no partridge gene. And you need them to have two partridge genes.
Breed a barred cockerel back to partridge hen.
Hen will give all chicks one copy of partridge and no barring.
Cockerel will be single barred so half chicks will be barred and half not barred.
He has both partridge and extended black so half will get extended black and half will get partridge.
Once again chicks that have partridge and extended black will look black. The ones that have two partridge genes will appear and be partridge.
Now you will have your crele but you need to add the second barring gene to your male to bred true.
Pick a partridge looking cockerel that is barred. Bred him to any partridge with barring pullets.
Those chicks will all be partridge based. All pullets will be your crele. Cockerels will be half single barred crele and half double barred crele. Pick the lightest colored cockerels.
They will most likely double barred.
Now you have your crele in both sexes.
Thats easy enough right?

Is this a crele??

I would say yes but I am no expert. I do know that 'good' crele has barring that lines up from feather to feather for a more uniform 'striped' look, but your bird looks quite young so it may be too soon to tell.
I wanted to ask; is a single barred rooster more desirable for exhibition, since its colors will be more dramatic?

For OEGB crele, a single barred Male is what the standard calls for. Double barred is not desirable. In theory you mate a double barred to a bbr to get correct Male oegb crele. From what I've read crele oegb are a double mating variety of you want correct colouring.

But as a hobbiest stand point I like the double barred males, so if you prefer double barred then you can use them for a exhibition female show line! And keep males at house for your own pleasure. But at the shows I've attended it seems like a lot of breeders show their double barred males without much thought on what the standard really wants
