Hello Everyone.
I am happy to say that it is official we are going to have a Central Florida Poultry community meeting/Law change meeting.

***The date of the meeting is to be on Saturday Feb 28th starting at around 2:45 and later..enought time for everyone to come out, even those people from Tampa and Miami.
(we might have another one on Sunday March 01 not sure yet)

We will have the meeting somewhere Central and public for many to come out and assist... a nice park so bring all the family!

LOCATION: Englewood Park-6050 Lake Underhill Road Orlando, fl 32807

If you google this in maps you can see there are many highways near that area since it is a very central location in orlando.

Now this is a park that is near main intersections which is great because it will catch the attention of many other residents in the area.

***This meeting will offer everyone information in everything needing to know on keeping poultry of all types.
Anyone owning chickens, ducks already like myself, etc can bring them out for a type of show and tell of your animals. We might even have some food available but lets see..
***If you have poultry intersted in trading or selling please bring them along as well, as there will be many people present interested in purchasing and/or swapping...

This meeting is also a way to promote people in our community in having backyard poultry in Orlando, FL as many people in our community are in need of supplying their families with something extra each week due to these economic times and people need to know that keeping chickens for eggs is a great way/alternative.

And as many other chickenstocks have in the past, we will have the Media come out to assist us in the meeting as a way of showing our large community on raising poultry. (to be present, Orlando Sentinel Newspaper, La Prensa newspaper, Wesh 2 News, WFTC Channel 9 News, Telemundo Orlando, etc anyone we can have present will come!

**I have contacted them and they will be present to come to the meeting! So bring on the change!

As many of you might know, we as a community are trying to change some laws regarding the ownership of poultry in our own properties. This is a way to promote Urban poultry/backyard poultry and will open the eyes of many in need, in these times to also raise poultry.

For more info on the laws please read here:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=120019

This will also open the eyes of the mayor, and board of commisioners to change these laws as well.

So this isnt just a swap meeting/hang out meeting. This is a community meeting to help others as well know the alternatives of keeping poultry, going green and providing your families something else in these times!!

***To be registered for the meeting please Post here or email at: [email protected]

We hope to see all Central FL Residents in BYC present!

Thank you and have a blessed day!

Chicken777 I am happy that we have gone so far with this type of battle and it looks like we are going to win. Myself living in orlando, I hope these laws do change soon.
I am hoping to assist that meeting, so hope to see you there. I might bring people that dont know anything on chickens to learn about them and I might even bring my chickens!

Okay I just added the address of the meeting and the time...I sure do hope that some Floridians here in BYC can be able to come on out.

I will be sending out the email to the other 50-70 people (non BYCers).

Thanks again!

Hello everyone, just an update on the meeting WE WILL HAVE IT ON SATURDAY!! ONE important thing is that I spoke to the Orlando sentinel editor that is going to cover the meeting and he said that it is a great idea if people do bring their poultry as we have planned. That way people can really see the real side of the story and see how we really want these laws changed! REMEMBER this is also a swap/sell or buy meeting as well..so if you have anything you are wanting to sell bring them out!

I am happy that many people are coming along including some BYC members all the way from South Fl including Tampa..Long Way for a great cause!

Thanks again everyone for your support!

Hello!
Do you happen to have anyone from east coast florida (beachside cocoabeach -melbourne beach?)

I am in Polk County FL. How do you find out the local laws?? We live in Winter Haven not in city limits and see chickens everywhere. We currently have 2 chickens and want more but dont want to get in trouble. I laugh and say we run a suburban farm

Hello well I am from East orlando, I live about thirty minutes from the coast.
Anyway if would like some more information regarding poultry law changes and somewhat, please read the laws section of this forum, I made an update of these and if you can help out like the many of the Floridians here in BYC have done, then please do so as they have been such a great help in our support to change our counties laws and most of all help many counties change their laws...we are still in need of plenty of help so please do so when you can. Thank you!

Any info on how the meeting went? I live in unincorporated orange county and I am an outlaw. Would like to know the laws have changed so I do not have to worry when I see the code enforcement truck on my street.

Hello, Well the meeting went great we even had a story in the Orlando Sentinel about someone raising poultry in their own backyards and how the laws need to change, etc.
The many people that went to the meeting were people from all around orlando even unincorporated orange county (not one byc person came, it looks like FL BYC members didnt really care)
Many of the people involved went with their chickens and showed awarness on this tragic case that happens in orlando, fl and many other places around the U.S the good thing is that maybe sooner or later they might change the laws but we still have to be persistant, please contact the orange county mayor and board of commisioners districts 1-6...they told us last month that they do not want to change the laws because it seems that people in district 1 are the ones mainly complaining.

If you send written letters instead of emails that is a plus.

Thanks for the interest, I am happy that at least someone from FL in BYC has cared. Please do not be intimidated though of the laws because you are not alone there are soo many people that the code enforcment cannot count and cannot do anything about it.

Hi, I'm sorry if this isn't the right way to respond to you, but this is my first time on this site. My son wanted to get 2 chickens after our dog and cat died and in May, after much research, he decided on 2 Rhode Island Reds. Well, knowing nothing about raising chickens, he did his homework and he and his dad built a real nice hen house, with an upstairs loft, too! They are pets, and he can't wait for Betty and Betsy to lay eggs, which we hope will be soon. Well, today we got a business card stuck in our door from Orange County Code Enforcement. Says "Please call, I received a call regarding chickens in your backyard, live poultry is prohibited in residential areas". Needless to say, our son is devastated! We thought we did our homework and thought we were allowed 2 chickens. We are in East Orange County, but in a sub-division, and we have a fenced yard. Can you tell me if you know if we can appeal this? Or apply for a permit, or exemption? I can't tell my boy he has to get rid of his pets. They are clean and quiet and he has worked very hard building them a nice house and is excited to see them lay eggs. I see you had a meeting very close to our home (we are off Dean Road) and would have gone if we were chicken owners back in February, but like I said, we are new to the chicken family. I won't ignore the card from Code Enforcement, but would like to delay any decision to get rid of our pets as long as possible, hopefully until the law changes. Do you know of any loopholes? Any thoughts or advice is appreciated!
