What breed is my grey hen?

I have a gray chicken that looks just like the picture. She is beautiful but she can really fly. Her wings seem to be different and I can't figure out how to clip her wings. She has plenty of room to move around in her yard with my other chickens but she goes over a high fence into a place she is going to be in danger. Thenks for any ideas.

Beautiful chickens. I have one but can not figure out how to clip her wings. She is quite the flyer and I am afraid she is going to get out. Her wings seem to be a little different than the others. Maybe she is to young but she sure can fly over the fence already. She is only 5 or 5 months old.

Has anyone figured out what chickens these are with dark grey necks that shade into a lighter grey down the body? I have 2 and they are beautiful but I have no idea what breed and all my Google searches turn up nothing.

I started out with Buff Orpingons & Black Australorp hens & 2 roos-A Buff Orp roo & a Red laced Blue Splash Wyandotte roo. I'm pretty certain these girls were the result of my Aussie hens & Wyandotte splash roo. Likely was the same mix with the roos pictured below (with the Australorp pictured behind the fence-their mother). Hope this helps.

I have fourth generation hens of my grandma's grey chickens.
Yes, they may have been mixed with other breeds since she gave me her orginal hens.... and maybe her hens were not entirely pure.

However, I consistently hatch these grey hens... with very solid and definite traits, so some of the original breed must be coming through strongly.

Here are a few distinguishing traits:
**steel, blue grey, very little if any lighter grey feathers.
**grey legs and top of toes, with white/light grey feet
**very upright, fanshaped tail
**small, short, pointed comb, extending back over head
**grey/blackish beak
**good mothers, although not particularily broody
**excellent layers, long production
**hardy in our cold climate

I get very few roosters... am hoping one little grey chick keeps on looking like a rooster!

Anyone have an idea on what this breed was originally????
I have one that could be her twin-same color, same short comb, same grey feet.. She was a rescue and I always wondered what she was. We need an ancestry.com for chickens...

I was looking for California gray chics when I came across your post. I believe this may be what your chickens are. It's a vintage mix breed of Barred rock and White leghorn. I'd be interested in purchasing some of your fine flock if you ever sell. Please feel free to pm me!
