Self-Blue Cochin Bantams

Does anyone have some self blue bantam cochins or eggs they are willing to sell me? I'd prefer something approaching show quality. :) Thanks!!

Nope.

400

This is my only lavender Cochin bantam, Wisteria. She is nowhere near show quality.

Thanks for answering! What you have there is a self blue, yes, based off of two copies of recessive lavender gene on a black bird, with maybe some yellow leakage. Or might be lavender gene on a red brown bird, since lavender will dilute red too. That's a nice color, and rare! Lemon blue can look similar, but it's very different genetically. Lemon blue is a red brown bird, with the blue from the dominant blue/black/splash gene.

Oops! I am so sorry. I responded to your post off of my phone, and thought your response was in the lemon blue forum. Of course you know what lavender is. Sorry...

I can't figure out how to edit my previous post or delete it.

It's okay, on the mobile version there will be a little pencil at the bottom of the box you typed. You can click on that to edit it.

Wisteria has a black face with some red/ normal colored blotches, same with her feet, they are yellow on bottom black on top. I think all Cochins are supposed to have yellow feet right?

I have a partridge Cochin bantam that has pink feet. I kinda like it.

The darker skin on Wisteria is interesting. I believe brown-red colors in most breeds are expected to have that "gypsy" face, but I'm not sure about what is expected of brown-red cochins. I think all cochins are supposed to have yellow legs, but it doesn't seem to be that uncommon of a fault, having off-color legs, especially in project colors.

Oh, how funny. All day yesterday, on the phone or on the browser version, that editing pencil wasn't showing up. I'd even read a thread about exactly where it should be, but it just wasn't there. Just now, after making my 4th post, the pencil showed up. I wonder if its a restriction on new-comers? Or maybe the feature was temporarily removed.

Sorry so many pics, but trying to get one that shows the color in the best light plus the feathers wasn't happening today.....

I'm curious as to if I have a cockerel & a pullet. I'm sure the one with the smaller comb & wattles is a pullet, but the other I keep wavering. They're both 3months & no sign of crowing.

I don't think the toes are properly feathered in either (though there are a lot of feathers on the ground to could be the growth/development) as the middle toe is visible, but the outer foot feathers are lush. At least to me. I love the color on both too. It's sunny today as I'm sure you can tell from the pics. Please excuse the mess, it's been a bit rainy here & everyone was hiding out in the same area...I snapped the pics before I started cleaning. Reality, not always picture perfect--at least for me. I know they're still too young, but I'm not sure about their overall fullness/form yet either. From above they seem kind of lean. I'm sure it's age & having been so hot this summer...waiting for them to get the roundness.

I'm curious as to what others think. I'm considering starting to breed & was thinking if I had a pair I could start with this little ones. Bringing in others too of course. Yes, that's a blue cockerel too. Unfortunately I don't have a blue pullet.

Yes I would say that you have at least one lavender pullet. And she is way better looking than my Wisteria.
Thank you. I like your Wisteria. There's something about the darker head fading to a lighter body that I like.

I lean towards 2 pullets as the blue is a cockerel. As such, I was thinking of breeding them together. He has really nice feathers, etc. It'd be a blue to a self-blue so I'm not sure what that'd produce, but figure it's bound to be pretty. I've a black & a white cockerel that are a few months older than these guys too. I'm guessing I could do some splash babies...not sure on mottled don't have that in my head.

Oh thanks :) her feathers are a little scraggly though.

I had a lavender cockerel but he wasn't tame so we gave him away.
I also have a blue cockerel but I don't think I will breed them because Wisteria isn't very fluffy. I think you would get black... And I'm not sure what else
Are yours bantams?
