Yeah, got the old cabinet turned into a brooder today!  I am so impressed what my daughter and I can do.  The chicks are SOOOOO much happier now.

Here is a picture of our humble beginnings of our coop.  Hope to get floor framed tomorrow and start on the walls.  Should be done with in 3 weeks,

almost time for them to move outside. Will be using Simpson hold down straps in concrete to keep it from blowing to Kansas!

Loving the warm weather today in Reno

Ignore the white polar bear in the snow.....

Happy Birthday Aubrey!  We've missed you.

I got my trash bin composters set up today.  I got 4 32 gallon trash bins and drilled a bunch of holes in them for air circulation.  then I filled them up with my chicken poop and shavings mixture I've been saving in trash bags.  I actually filled all 4 up so I will probably get some more to handle the new compostables.

I love my composters!  I had Russ build 2 of them last year, and they worked great.  Though I think we build up a little too much compostable waste for two... now a lot less since the chickens are now the midpoint in the Circle O' Food.  Speaking of which... the barred rock and the australorps have already learned that, if the others see me and come running to me, there is something good in store for them.

horseshowmomnv, it looks great so far!  And we'll have several nice days to get work done... I'm mourning the fact that I don't have $200 just lying around for me to stain the rest of the fence.  It'll have to wait until the important things are done.

Got the rest of my rabbit cages today!  Now they get to go sit in a corner until the springtime work is done and I actually have time to build a nesting box.

Chickens: faverolles, australorps, Delaware, barred rock, welsummer, silver laced wyandotte, lavender and buff x wheaten ameraucanas, BLRW, blue and splash andalusian, cochin, exchequer leghorn, silkie, brabanter, minorca, turken, RIR, brahma, speckled sussex...Ducks: two welsh harlequins, two blue swedish...  Two dogs, a snake, two parents and two kids... and food gardens everywhere else.

so you keep a chick in a brooder til it is 6 weeks old and in order to keep them in you cover it?
