Japanese Bantam Thread!

It depends on when they are hatched. If hatched early early in the year they might start laying in the fall. If hatched later in the spring, they will probably wait until the following spring to lay. It also depends on if you are supplementing daylight or not.

I just got a pair of Black Tailed White Japanese bantams and I am soooo in love with them! They have such sweet personalities and always try to perch on my head! I never really was interested in getting some, but at this sale they were $15 for the pair so I just HAD to try them! Now I'm going to have to make a coop for them, because I'm probably going to end up getting more!

OK, I just had two chicks hatch last night, one short legged, and one long legged. You can actually see the difference in leg lenght when they are up walking around, but of course, they wouldn't do that when I was trying to take a picture. So here they are, side by side. You can clearly see the difference. On the short legged guy, his toes are longer that his shank. Not so on the long legged guy.

When I hatch some short legged Japanese I always call them my little tugboats, they have the long fat little body scootin around.
LOL

I was at a show Sunday and didnt buy any Japanese because they seemed flighty. You say they are sweet! Now I think I missed out! Maybe they hadnt been handled much. I love the buffs! I will keep them on my wish list.. Margie:fl

Anyone know of a good website or place to sell a show quality pair of black Japanese? I have a gorgeous trio and want to sell them but are not looking to get ripped off as they come from a top breeders lines and cost me a good amount. Any info would be great. I'm not into Japanese so don't know where is a good place to sell them. Thanks
