I'd love to do seramas and modern game bantams, but our winters here are far too harsh without added heatCool! My friend has Seramas and she thinks I should have some of those. They are adorable but nope, just sticking with silkies.
We heat to 40F. Have for years. Somewhat for them, mostly for me. No, not a heat lamp either.I'd love to do seramas and modern game bantams, but our winters here are far too harsh without added heat
There's no way we can heat every structure that much here. Too far from the house for most, to small for some and that would be a 60-70 degree difference compared to outsideWe heat to 40F. Have for years. Somewhat for them, mostly for me. No, not a heat lamp either.
When we bought the garden shed that part of it became the coop, we put it within distance of the power pole. Hubby who is an electrician then wired it to the coop and buried the wire. We wanted power out there anyway, but I said I'd refuse to get chickens if I had to trudge out in 3' of snow in the wintertime to get to there to collect frozen eggs and haul water. Homey wouldn't do it! So, we heat. It's a very thin oil filled radiator type that does the job on it's lowest setting. There's no way we can heat every structure that much here.
