give me the ups and down/pros and cons of doing this.
will they follow around a hen if i keep them penned up together after they hatch so they can bond or do quail chicks not do that like actual chicken chicks? lol.
what can i feed them after they hatch?

thanks. cole.

I wish I could help. I am incubating quail for the first time.

from what I have read you feed them commercial game bird starter.

Someone will come around soon and answer.

Oh yeah, I have been reading the sticky post at top of the quail page. Lots of good info.

ALL CONS HERE....

1. the hen will either crush the eggs or the chicks when they hatch

2. chickens are disease carriers that are immune or tolerant to a myraid of illnesses that gamebirds have absolutely no immunity to--- the result is ill quail babies that will most asuredly die, and if not they will become the new illness carriers

I've hatched out two batches of coturnix under a bantam hen. I marked my calendar, waited for the hatch day, then removed them as they popped out. Of those that hatched, (11 out of 15 & 10 out of 15) I've not lost any to disease, and that was over a year ago.

well thanks. that turns my plans around again. ill give them to her and remove them as they hatch. yea thats a good idea.thank you.

ive heard of ppl using silkys and cochins to hatch out gamebirds and idk if the disease thing is like 90% chance or what becouse i know ppl have kept chickens with quail and pheasants with no problem but i also know ppl who have had lots of problems so it is not a 100% chance that the gamebirds will get disease and die just fairly high would i risk it?....not with expensive birds or birds you plan on selling to others becouse they could still end up transmitting the disease to other birds without showing anysigns
