I'm super new to Lakenvelders and after seeing pictures of some with spots of black in the white and not having read much on breed standards I'm wanting to know if the spots are due to immaturity, evening out will likely come after winter? or is this a flaw? maybe a preference but not with me. What I love in looking at this breed is the clear contrast so stark with the black on white, the length and stance of the comb, Ive read even the hen's comb stands erect which is a delight. I cant get past the leghorn hen, DO NOT LIKE FLOPPY CRESTS....I'm going to buy my first OF THIS BREED soon and via mail/parcel from Maine to Louisiana so not cheapat all. It's scary thinking I may not get what I thought was preferred, what I know I want. Yes on white white earlobes, no to spots, yes to the tail held high, full and black. Some more talk about how the belted black and white Lakenvelders are supposed to look quality wise and what to expect from chick to adult please !! Also I'd like opinions on bantam vs standard size when main objective is beauty in the breed.. Thanks !! This rooster's comb is amazing as is the breed. It has so many ridges and is longer than many. It rides proudly off and away from the headThey get their final color after the first fall molt like most chickens. Good luck showing your birds, once you get some, you'll have to post some pictures of them.
