people with house chickens

Hello Everyone,

I have a house chicken named Gabby. I love her dearly. I have come to relieze that there are "others" out there too. I  was thinking that we needed a place to chat. A place that is safe, where we won't be judged that our chickens are sitting on the couch with us eating grapes and NOT wearing a diaper. If you believe like I do, that every chicken deserves the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, even if it's curled up next to the fireplace on a stormy night, or sunbathing  on the patio with the dogs, or maybe napping on the bed with the cats. Well, this might just be the place for you. So welcome....

Everyone

I don't have any house chickens at the moment (though I do have spoiled garage chickens and ducks!), but boy did this post make me smile! big_smile I hug and kiss my chickens all the time, haha. smile

I have a house chicken named Virginia!  What's yours named?  She lives in a bathroom with a bunny I rescued and I bring her out every day to socialize and spoil.  She rules the roost as far as the rabbit goes!  It's a riot.  She runs at him and raises her hackles.  But she doesn't hurt him.  Her favorite thing to do is to take a dust bath on our lazyboy chair!!!  LOLOL! It's brown like dirt so...  She scratches it, fluffs and rolls around on it and then collapses and takes a nap in the "sun".  Poor thing doesn't know any better!   I will be taking her outside as soon as the two and a half foot of snow melts and the weather warms up.  I want to get her a friend, too.  She is almost ready to start laying.  How about yours?

My Gabby has free run of the whole house. She is about 9 months old and lays an egg every other day. In my sons room. Used to be in the dog bowl(my avatar) We took her and her sister in after adog killed their flock. My girls didnt accept her and attacked her. blood and feathers everywhere. That was December 8th and she still has no feathers on much of her back. We all love her. She is a hoot to have in the house. She goes outside with the dogs, but the girls scare her so she usually isent out long. At night when everyone else goes to the coop she comes to the door. She knows where home is.  Now we have a RIR named Molly that likes to spend a few hours everyday inside too. Gabby is not happy about that and lets me know every chance she gets, LOL

I ordered new babies today SLW, GLW, White Rocks, and Australorps, later Im'm getting Light Brahmas and Blue Cochins from a breeder. My husband told me today that if one of the new girls doesent make it outside that he'll build a nice indoor coop for Gabby. I just am not sure if I'd have the heart to put her in it.

I have a grey silkie hen that i bought in november and didn't have the heart to put her outside with the other dual purpose chickens because she's just toooo cute!! Her name is a-BOK-gail, and she responds to her name! We have many conversations- about how the rabbit that she lives with in my spare room is annoying her, that she wants treats, that she would like to be cuddled, etc... As soon as i finish off the coop in front of the house she will be going in with my bantam ornamentals.

Oh!!  So yours lives with a rabbit, too??!  I think Virginia would rather have the rabbit with her than live alone.  I guess I should ask her!  LOL

I'm not judgemental on this issue in the slightest! I'd love to be able to have one of my girls live inside with us! But DH won't let me! sad

My argument is: Hey! The DOG gets to come inside! The CAT gets to come inside! Why not one of my girls? Huh? Huh? Why not Mr. I Wear The Pants In This Household? How come one of my girls can't enjoy all of the pleasures of indoor living? .............................He has never given me a satisfactory answer to this. rant

So, enjoy the companionship of your fine feathered friends being indoors, and know that some of us are terribly jealous! sad

I have an OEGB that lives in the house. She plays with the dogs, always charging them then running away! She even went after my vaccum!lol
She is spoiled and will NOT wear her diaper, she flops around on the floor until she gets it off. She will also fuss and fuss at night until we wrap her in her pink blanket and put her in her basket:rolleyes:!
She was hatched under a hen, but I went out there when she was only a few hours old and found her face down in the dirt. I thought she was dead, but when I picked her up she moved. Soooo I popped her in the incubator and here she stayed!
Her name is princess!tongue
