Red Laced Cornish X and project talk (pics p. 8)

I tossed all but 5 eggs before lockdown , and thought possibly even those were duds . However , the only CX egg left in the 'bator has piped tonight [ tomorrow is 21 days ] so there's at least a little hope for the 4 EE eggs in there also .

I have a CX cross in the incubator this morning , and a pip in an EE egg that should be a CX cross also . I had one Wyandotte egg in the 'bator that would be a CX cross if it hatched . When doing the last candleing , I forgot to look for the " W " I had it marked with . I'm not sure if the only tan egg left was from a WLRC x CX , or a CX x Wyandotte ; the chick is yellow so its a cross and I'll see if there is enough egg shell left to look for my mark later . { I think if it has a single comb it will be the lattter cross }

I have only three chicks , and only one is a CX cross ..................... and it appears as if it might have short muffs instead of being by the WLRC . I'll be more patient and allow enough time to know which roo needs to buy me cigars on the next go round .

Here's my only CX cross , and those sure look like muffs sticking out . I would really prefer the Ameraucana x CX cross anyway LOL .
[ The only way I could make the yellow on yellow , suspicioned muffs show in a pic was from behind ]

Awhile ago I posted a few pic's of the progress of my special meat bird project from this past springs hatching, so I thought I would post some of them as of last week and their growth and conformation progress.

This is the very nice White Rock Rooster I am using as part of my seed stock, he is from winning show stock and is absolutely huge, standing almost 2' tall

You can also see he has breast girth as well.

Here is one of my Cornish X breeder hen's after a molt the wide bodied middle one, she is fit and looking fine and still producing fertile eggs.

facing away is one of my only 3 pure standard white cornish hens hatched this past spring, she is filling out nicely along the back with the much desired heart shaped back beginning to come out. and may be at POL this early spring.

this pen is full of pure white rock/cornish X crosses, which will be bred back in various way's to cornish X's and WR's this coming spring.
They have progressed very nicely in size and structure.

A very nice Buckeye Rooster that I am starting to work into my program, he is a second yr Roo that has what it takes.

Here he is in with a standard white Cornish hen, let's see what comes out of this pairing before she goes into the hulk's pen for spring hatching season.

I have been thinking of working with the Buckeye for a while now but was just holding out for good brood stock, so this will be nice to see they come out now that I have something of good standards to work with. That White Rock Roo is the best Ive seen in a good bit and have had him for 2 yrs waiting for his full potential to show through and it has so the wait is over, now to start using him will be cool. I am holding some of my buddy's stock also in a seperate holding pen, as he is in ill health and his are even better than mine. That little Cornish hen is my only breeder at the moment, she is coming out of a molt and she will be back with the hulk for spring laying as soon as I hatch some chicks from her Big Buckeye boyfriend presently. Most of the crosses of various controlled matings have really started to come of their own with very satisfying results, so yeah it has started to get as interesting and fun as I had hoped.

oh man the guy in ill health isn't your friend with the white cornishes is it? he looks so nice in the pics. well, whoever it is, pass on well wishes.

hey steve - I was skimming your posts and not really reading/thinking (been so busy my apologies) but those chicks mean your new bator is working??? YAY!!!
