idea for freeze proof waterer

i'm in southern maine but right on the coast so we don't stay below zero for too long of a stretch usually. pretty long time period below freezing though. i'm sure i'll end up utilizing a low tech solution like a heated dog bowl but have fun building things so i was hoping it would work to build some kind of recirculation line

I think it will if you use smaller pipe and add in a heat source

Many nipples are designed to fit 3/4 inch pipe.

If it's larger the center pins can be pushed out of the nipples.

I like this idea Droopy! have you had success with it. I am not worried about the water in the nipples freezing as those would be inside the coop and it seems to stay above freezing in there. with a bunch of chickens supplying the heat.

I thought about doing the same type thing only using the cups screwed into pvc pipe due to soo many people complaining about the nipples leaking, and a circulating pump i was going to use a huge fish tank pump i have and like others here have said i decided not to do it because i think the main problem is going to be in the hold tank....

Im thinking of doing the same type system but putting the hold tank in the chicken barn away from a draft and elavating it and use it as a gravity waterer... ive seen people hook up five gallon auto waterers with a light bulb just above the water to keep it from freezing...

oh wait i have ideas flowing now use a metal 55 gallon drum and put a submersable water heater...

Droopy, I've thought of using a recirculating water supply also and had thoughts of putting an aquarium heater in the water supply to keep it warm all the time, and having a toilet tank filler to keep the supply level up so the heater was always submerged, and doesn't burn up.
