For about a week now I have been letting my banties, giunea, ducks out to free range well I also have two Chukar that are in the same pen. Ihad gotten to the piont that I was done with them. I open the door for all of them to run around. The Chukar follow all the birds in and out of the pen. Kinda funny too, because everyone said they will not come back. ..... Well they do...lol

Has anyone else done this, and if so how long did the Chukar keep returning to there pen?

It depends. Chukars, even though they are captive, are still wild animals (not domesticated like the other fowl) & cannot be predictable on what they will do. I've heard of Chukars hanging around offices, homes, farms, etc. where they are fed regularly and others taking off like a bolt of lightning!!

Pretty cool that they do that!! Like I said though, chukar can be unpredictable like all wild animals. If they continue to go with your other birds, you've got some pretty tame chukar & best of luck with them!!

I had a pet chukar as a kid. She lived in the henhouse for years. Eventually I received a male and he spent the winter with her in the henhouse. The next year they hatched some chicks and we had a little flock of them for several years. Eventually, they began to wander a bit.

Well thought id update you on my free ranging Chukars. They are still coming back every night. They are so tame now that my dog can walk less then a foot away an not even budge. I still hope they stick around. After removing the Guinea from my flock the Chukar have stepped up as the guards of the flock.
