The last molt will be very light. You will notice those little feathers in the coop and the hens will look a bit better. It's more of a feather exchange.

Yes, a couple of weeks or so. It is good that they are checking out the nest box!

I have a Partridge Rock hen who just started to lay. I have been told that she is full-blood Partridge Rock, but she has feathered shanks. I have read comments that this is not standard for the Partridge Rock, but I checked out the SOP from my public library recently and the old 1920 SOP for Partridge Rocks does not call out clean shanks as a SOP requirement for Partridge Rocks, like it does for at least some of the other Rock colors. So what's the deal? Are feathered shanks really a show disqualifier for Partridge Rocks? And does this then mean my hen is not really full-blooded but instead a mix, or throw back? Sorry, I'd post a picture, but I do not have a good one and I'm at work. Perhaps I will remember soon to snap a good pic of her to post. I've been trying to remember.

Congratulations on the egg!

I would guess that a rooster jumped the fence or that there was s different breed of rooster there within the previous three weeks before the egg was laid.

Does she have the look of a feather legged breed? Does the breeder have Marans, Brahmas or other feather legged breeds there?

I just had to share. I am so excited one of my hens combs is getting redded & her wattles are noticeable :)

And here is some of the other hens. They are all different sizes but I was told they all have the same hatch date. I love all their new feathers that are coming in. The actually have tail feathers now !!

Thank you !!! I love the different coloring of them as they grow. And they look more like chickens now with more feathers on their tails & body. The markings are so beautiful. I figure they have more growing to do since the hen I saw at the fair was still bigger than my hens.
I just dont know how they are all going to fit on their favorite perch if they get any bigger lol

Lovely bird pictures!

Here's a few of my Partridge Rocks. They're all pretty quirky in personality, especially my two cockerels; they love to do this little hop-skip when they come over for treats. :) While they're hatchery birds, this thread has really got me interested in learning about breed conservation.

Anywho, they're nearly 16 weeks. I hoping to maybe have eggs in November.

Thank you! Though, I'd blame that on the hatchery bird in them - some just mature way faster than others for production purposes. I still think it's a good month or so until they might be ready to lay. Not to mention the days are rapidly getting shorter.

Your girls' combs/wattles look bigger, and their bodies seem more filled out; you should be getting really close hopefully! Sending egg-thoughts your way. :)

I took a couple of pictures of my two Partridge Rocks today. They were hatched in early February of this year.

They are very friendly and like to jump up to be with me when I work around the coop.
