Sorry to hear about your tom. Keep me posted. If you can take a pic of him/his neck, please post so that I can take a look at him.

I never thought that I would be updating this thread with this information almost 2 years later. For those of you who have followed this post from Day 1 and are aware of Mr. Turkey's ordeal, I can't believe I'm even posting this news. On Friday, when I returned home from work, the first bird that I ALWAYS look for is Mr. Turkey. He is my favorite bird of all of the birds that I have. He has been through so much and it really is a miracle that he is still alive. When the state vet comes each year for my NPIP re-cert, that is the first bird that he asks about. Before he can even get out of his truck, he is asking, "Where is Mr. Turkey"? He and his partner are always excited to see Mr. Turkey. And I am always happy to report that he is still alive and kicking. So anyway, I get home and I find my boy and he looks "different". So, I look again and I think that I'm looking at a different turkey. So, I look at him again and I know that it's him. For the past almost 2 years, he has been having a crocked neck (see pics in Post #1) and has been living a normal life. After all of the testing by the state vet and another out of state lab that the state lab sent his medical info and lab work to, it was concluded that he only had an injury and that he would always have a crocked neck. Well, Friday was a miracle. When my eyes finally focused on him and saw him, I noticed that his neck had straightened out. I was speechless. I could not believe what I was seeing. It has been almost 2 years (since 7/2011) since his neck became crocked and didn't straighten out. I cannot tell you how this happened. I didn't do anything special. I just accepted the fact that he would always have a crocked neck. The only things that I made sure of was that when the forecast called for many days of heavy rain, I brought him inside and he stayed in the laundry room until the days of rain stopped and it dried up. I did this because I know that the rain and damp weather could have brought about a respiratory problem. With him being in that condition, I didn't want to chance any problems. Also, in the winter months if it was going to be too cold outside, I would bring him in and keep him warm. He would live in the laundry room until I was comfortable with the outside temps. The only issues that he has suffered with over the last 2 years was a severed case of bumble foot. I performed the surgery myself and kept him inside until the foot was fully healed and then put him back outside. I also from time to time would give him a neck massage where the crocked area was. I think he kinda liked that because he would extend his neck as I massaged it. So, maybe I did take extra precaution with him. Well whatever caused the neck to straighten up, I"m thankful. I'm glad to report the recovery from crocked neck is possible. Maybe this is a 1 in a million case but I'm thrilled the 1 is my Mr. Turkey.

Hi, I just wanted to send you a reply after reading your blog, I keep turkeys as well, and although I haven't had wry neck, I have come across respiratory problems.
and just wanted to say thanks for sharing. Very interesting read. I hope that he is still fighting fit in 2014.

No vet in phoenix would only charge $40 let alone the total ending up $100 i contacted ab avian vet in phx there is obly one. Ti diagnose a $5 chick they wanted $460.00, all vet care in phx is unaffordable.
