Alfalfa and turkeys - does it make the meat bitter?

What about crumbling the cubes into their regular feed? Are they picky enough they'd still ignore it?

I tried soaking it, they did not touch it

I have fed flake alfalfa to turkeys, ducks and chickens for years as a supplement, particularly when Mother Nature insists on not growing Her own. I have never had a turkey taste bitter. i believe the tannins in alfalfa are digested out fairly quickly. I also don't feed alfalfa exclusively...it is a free choice with their normal grains. I always introduce alfalfa to poults and chicks at 3 days of age. It actually teaches them to start foraging and scratching rather than heading just to the trough.

If you want to boast the birds flavor try feeding them for a few weeks before harvest then try apples that fell of the tree.
Or feed them the herbs and spice that you will use to cook them with. If you have them growing fresh in the garden.

The best tasting deer is one that feeds in an orchard.
