I would do the hot towel and make sure to keep the wound open and try and use a saline flush to get all the gunk out. I would also do what another poster said to use tweezers and try and get any and all of the puss out. That will help the most I had a cat that had a hole in his neck it was deep I had to pull the scab off and keep flushing it with a diluted mixture of water and peroxide and using something called bag balm (very old medicine) my grandma used it on all her animals its not the lotion it comes in a small red tin some older pharmacy carry it. Great stuff works wonders on pulling pus and stuff out. with in 2 weeks the cats injury was healed and he lived for many more years. Keep up the great work. Praying your chicken pulls through. I would keep her inside in a cat carrier until she is healed.

SO glad to hear she is pulling through! Yes! Tylan will work. I took my hen to the local vet and they said Tylan is broad spectrum and strong. THey also said Baytril for an infection..ie staph, coyote, animal bite. Either should do the trick! Hope she pulls through!

I used tweezers to get some of the black stuff out.. It's very soft and mushy.. But it's bloody, so maybe it's not a ball of pus? The best way I can describe it is kinda gross... PM if you wanna know cuz I don't wanna put anything that could get this thread locked.
Do chickens go through seperation anxiety? Cuz Sugar stays outside in the duck enclosure some parts of the day, and this morning I put food in there for her but she wasn't eating it. Instead she was making "buck buck" noises and staring through the mesh at the other chickens eating. She looked sad

And she was trying to go close to the ducks but the ducks kept waddling away from her. They went into the water cuz Sugar kept following them and she waited next to the water.

I'm pretty sure the thread won't get locked due to yucky descriptions since this is the diseases/injuries category.

Were you able to flush it out any? Do you have any new pictures just so we can see how she's coming along? I've been thinking about her so much it feels like she's one of my own!

I do think she's probably missing her chicken friends. Some people put injured/recovering chickens in a dog carrier inside of the chicken run so the injured bird could be around the chickens but able to rest and be safe from pecking. However, I don't know how hot it is where you are or if this is something you could do but I thought I'd mention it.

You are taking such good care of her!! She sounds like she is just as sweet as her name!

I used a saline solution but nothing came out nor did it go in far. I think all that is left is the black mass. Also some parts of her skin is turning a purple-ish color.

The black thing is like menstrual goop.. Just a ball of it. I'll get some pics in as soon as I can.

the skin turning a purplish color may be bruising from so much manipulation or it could be tissue dying off and becoming necrotic. can u use some sort of triple antibiotic on chickens? maybe put some of that in or on it. hopefully just a bruise and skin will begin to granulate in and heal right up. keeping fingers and toes crossed for you and her.
