Blue splash marans

You will not get the eggs you think. They will not be chocolate or any where near that color. You will get more like any Orp egg.

My black maran just started laying and her eggs are a darker brown than the other chickens eggs but not the very dark they are supposed to be. Will they get darker as she goes along I wonder? I, like you, would like to have eggs of every color. The sometimes crested cream legbar also lays blue, green and olive eggs and is a pretty and sweet hen. I am going to order a couple. I want to know what kind of chicken lays a lavendar egg or a pink one. Anybody know? I got a chicken that was an americauna-maran cross that was going to give me olive green eggs only she turned into a he! He, he! Doncha hate it when that happens?

I just got two blue splash chicks today. I have some BCM eggs in the incubator. I was told the blue splash lay a nice brown egg. But not dark. Similar to an Orpington color. The BCM are supposed to lay the darkest of the Marans

I have three "blue splash" Marans. I had four, but the one with slate legs and black eyes died mysteriously. They were from a hatchery, and I adopted them after their original owners decided to move. They lay very pale, very tan eggs. The girl that died laid the darkest eggs, but they were speckled more than actually dark. The three I have left have white legs and each has a different amount of feathering on their legs. One barely has any, one is just covered. They're not very splashy, just sort-of speckled. I am debating on whether to get them a rooster, or just let my SF rooster have access to them after a few more months of quarantine. I know they are not very purely bred, so I wouldn't feel terrible about mixing them with a Faverolles. Might make some interesting colors...
I know this is an old thread, but did you ever decide to breed your salmon to your splash? If so, how did that turn out?

Not yet. One went broody so I have EE/Faverolles eggs under her. I'm building a new, bigger coop so they'll all get the chance to be with the rooster very soon. Thank you for reminding me about this post, though. I'll be sure to come back and update!

Im glad I found this thread. I got some french blue splash marans from a local breeder. They are so pretty. About 4 months now . A couple of mine look less splashy and dark grey. Their combs and waddles are more red than pink. Are they roosters? Anyone know how to tell? They were all hatched within a week or two from eachother. So unsure if they are just older?
I can try to get pictures.
