Our first baby picture!   Congrats.  Very cute baby.    Looks like it's going to be a puffy one when dry and fluffed. 

I had my egg flock out free ranging in the garden today.  Usually they are only out the last couple of hours before dark.  Today they were out for around four hours.  Usually I open the gate and shepherd them back to their coop/run.  They usually very sedately walk back.  Today when I went out to move them, they were all clustered by the gate and fussing at me to hurry.  When I opened the gate to the garden, Scarlett (RIR) practically pushed me out of her way and bolted for the run.  She rushed up the ramp and into the coop and flung herself into a nest box.  By the time everyone else had gone in and I closed the run gate, then walked to check in the box, she had already laid her egg and gotten back out.  Literally, the whole process from garden gate to egg laid was maybe 60 seconds tops.

Poor girl, I could almost hear her scolding me..................."I've got an egg in me and I need to get it out, NOW!!!!"

  They are so funny.  I have an EE  who comes screaming out of the nest box as soon as she lays. She is running hell bent for leather as if she just laid an alien that was chasing her.  Cracks me up every day!

I just wish I knew what breed it was lol. It did come out of one of the large eggs... so I guess that narrows it down a bit lol.

I have a trio ... well, there are three of them ..... of silkies at the "tweenager" stage.  No clue as to their sexes.  They've been outside in a small box coop and integral hardware cloth pen, tucked under the edge of my deck.  Today I dragged one of the kit coops used at the rental as a grow out and put together the covered pen for it.  This will be the next home for the silkies - more run space, a larger "living quarters" coop, no roosts inside.  I think it's perfect for them.  They'll move to it next weekend, and I have to move my five WCB Polish chicks out of the inside brooder because I need it for the Easter Hatch..  So the Polish chicks will go in the "under the deck" coop/pen for a while to harden up. 

It rained like a cold monsoon yesterday and snow even fell at my friends' house at 2650 feet.  My property's altitude is just under 2200 feet.  The sun skipped in and out of clouds today with an occasional spritz of rain. 

My mom's April fool this morning was to wake me up by telling me it was snowing again.  Soooooooo not funny as we had snow last weekend!  Plus, it did not make me want to get up.

lol. We went to a birthday party at a pool hall last night for my cousin and after we left because of the tension we came to our house. At 1:00 the guys realized it was April 1st and decided to come in and say the cops were here and they already had one of my cousins in cuffs.... (with my family this is not out of the norm at all) We get outside to them so happily screaming april fools. We were not happy.

On another note. I have an egg that has a piece of egg taken out and I can see the membrane. At first I could see lots of movement, but I haven't seen it move at all in at least an hour, maybe 2. Is it normal for them to rest that long or should I be worried? The egg beside it would have rolled all over the bator by now if it wasn't held in place by other eggs.

My eggs are on lockdown. some due tomorrow, some due the 5th!!

I started laughing as I opened the box and saw what was in there.  Hubby heard me and had to come check it out and I then had to admit that they were guinea eggs hiding in the pretty plastic shells :)  He gave me "the look" and just shook his head and went back to his TV. I'm sure he'll come to love my guinea babies..  

 I love this creative AND protective idea!  Plus it was just plain fun to find that surprise
