I am seriously trying to change he world. We (me,hubby,5 kids & numerous pets) have been recycling, repurposing, composting, now homeschooling and learning to grow our own food. I want my kids to know where their food comes from, appreciate life and hardwork. When our next adventure was to make a chicken coop(no roosters) & buy cute fuzzy chicks,we were shocked to find out that it isnt legal in our small town even though we know numerous families with chickens and some even lucky enough to have horses, cows & chickens WITH roosters. Im no law expert but I would like to change this law, even if it puts limitations on the amount and space from the neighbors houses. Anybody who can help in any way I would appreciate it.

Check out the Arlington Egg Project website:

Here in Arlington, VA the zoning ordinances preclude almost everyone from owning chickens. The Arlington Egg Project is working to get the ordinances changed to allow for a limited number of backyard hens- but no roosters. I think you will appreciate their approach, and perhaps get some ideas on how to get folks interested in changing the laws in your area. Good luck!
