This EE had bumblefoot, I treated with antibiotics and her egg issues have 100% solved! She is laying perfect eggs again! Unbelievable. Who'd know that a few days of penicillin would fix an egg issue like this. The lighter egg was just laid a moment ago, it will darken tomorrow.

Yuck! I have a hen that lays shell particles inside the egg white. They are outside the egg as well and wash off easily. Her eggs are not usable and this just started. She's a year old. I have to throw out most of her eggs.

Will this continue? I only have 2 EE's. Her color eggs are/were very popular.

Here is a couple photos. Freshly laid. Usually there are more clumps of egg particles then this. The second photo it's the egg shell particle is to the upper right of the yolk.

Normal......I get some eggs with the extra on the outside.....just excess calcium I think. And there is nothing wrong with that egg you cracked....you are talking about the little brown/red spot? Not a thing wrong..........not that I can see!

No, the shell is inside. It's so hard to see on my iPhone pics. They are not edible whatsoever.

You bite into pieces of eggshell. Oh, it's so gross. Usually I have clumps and clumps of green eggshell inside the egg white.

I take it that it's not a common problem.

That's green eggshell not a brown spot. Just one of many that show up in the eggs. Those green specks are all inside the egg white. Most the time they clump up in balls. These eggs are not editable.

I have had the extra deposits on the outside of eggs - but not shell inside the eggs. However, I have one hen that always seems to have black or brown specks (not blood spots) in the whites of her eggs - and just as often there are blood spots on the yolk. While I know that such eggs are okay to eat - I always throw them out because they look so gross and unappetizing.

Her eggs are crunchy, so you know it's the egg shell deposit. Even the smallest particles have a nice eggshell crunch to it. Bleh!

I hate resurrecting an old post, but how did you fix it? I've got an EE with this problem too. Her eggs have always had pearls outside, but suddenly since her October molt there are pearls floating around inside the egg too. it's DISGUSTING-no meat spots, no blood spots, but little beads of shell sometimes in clusters so big you can see them if you candle her eggs with a flashlight. Nasty, nasty, nasty.
