First eggs, but no oyster shells

First of all congratulations on your first egg! I agree with all don't worry about being without for 4 days. I have all layers now but when I had chicks I put all flock or chick feed in a separate lower feeder, well I decided to just leave that feeder with "all flock" in it and one with layer feed and they still nibble on both. Chickens will eat what their body needs so don't be in a big hurry to go to layer feed like I was at first. The protein in most layer feed is much lower than the all flock or grower, so the other feeds are fine. Side note my hens eat their oyster shell so much better off of ground than in a free choice dispenser! Silly birds.
