Store bought eggs hatch along anyone? I'm buying regular organic.

Ever since I read the post about hatching store bought eggs I have been dying to try it! Well I get my incubator today and as soon as I know it's working properly a byc friend is sending me some of her eggs, and the day I get those I am buying some store bought eggs as well. I want to hatch at the same time just for fun. I will most likely be setting all the eggs later this week.
Now, I don't have any stores around here that sell fertilized eggs so I am going to take a risk and buy a couple different brands of free-range organic eggs. I figure it will be fun to see what happens and I have read of people having success with this.
So if you would like to join me you can buy fertilized store eggs, or like me, some that simply say "free-range organic." From what I have read the best results come from eggs you ask the store employees to get from the back because the fresher the better, or you can just look at the exp. date and pick the freshest ones. Users have also suggested buying eggs from the farmers market. The point is to see how many eggs we can hatch from eggs that weren't intended to be hatched.
It's cheep and will be fun to see how many hatch. So who's in?

Hi..hatch along's, from what I know don't really have rules it's just someone hatching and wants hatching buddies! I have been wanting to try the store bought eggs too! I won't be able to start a new batch in the bator untill the end of next week. I have 22 eggs in the bator set to hatch on the 4th and 5th...I also have a dozen silkie eggs coming next week and have been collecting eggs from my polish crested to put in too...I could add a dozen from the organic store down the street from me ...it would be fun, but I will be a week behind you I think. If I were you, before you actually set any, i'd crack open a few and see if they're fertile or not.

Yesterday, I was cooking and used regular old $1/doz eggs (only one of my chickens is laying so far), and one of those eggs was fertile. How bizarre! The other three, however, weren't.

Shardean- great! I will keep everyone updated on when my eggs ship so it gives you some sort of idea of when I will be buying the store bought eggs. Glad I have a hatching buddy!

I was thinking I would get eggs at the grocery store tonight and make them tomorrow for breakfast. Then if those eggs appear to be fertile it will be a good brand to attempt hatching, if not I will try another. It's so strange that there are fertile eggs in some grocery store brands!

Alrighty I just bought some organic free range eggs and used a couple to make dinner. Both had one red spot in them. I have heard this means fertilized, is this true?

Not true. Halo linked to the post that I was going to. Fertile eggs will have kind of a white bullseye.

A red spot just means the chicken had a fright or trauma of some sort (usually very minor) while they were developing that egg.

Can you really hatch store brought eggs?? Wouldn't them being kept cold keep them from hatching?

Yes you can. Quite a few people have. Freezing can affect hatch rates but not necessarily make it impossible to hatch some.

I bought three different brands of free-range organic eggs and not 1 hatched. I did not check any for fertility before hand which I probably should have done. Some people have bought fertile eggs at Trader Joe's and hatched some out. I do not have any place close to me that has fertile eggs. Maybe a health food store will have some.
