Something killed 3 of my chicks

I lock them away at night but leave them out in a pen during the day. I went out there and found 3 dead. One has a slit in it's stomach, the other two no marks at all and were on their backs kicking the air when I ran out there. I heard something banging around and my chicks being really loud. :(
I'm upset that I lost 3, even more upset that my favorite one was one of them. It came from the dark brown egg. The rest are from white eggs :(
 
awww, sorry to hear about the babies, sounds kind of like a cat? I would think a coon would have mangled it or ate them, or is there anyway a larger black bird or something could get to them? even a blue jay can be pretty nasty

I'm 99% sure it was a cat. there are so many cats out here. I thought I had the pen cat proof. and this morning i chased a cat out of my garden. I'm still upset about it.
I just find it helps to talk about it (or type about it) when something upsetting happens.
