Announcing the new BYC Reputation System: Ovations

There is a limit to how many ovations you can give in a 24 hour period. Certain sections of BYC don't allow ovations. And if you aren't seeing the thumbs up in the threads, try turning off your browser and restarting it. Many times this fixes all kinds of issues with BYC.

Thanks, its fixed now!

I'm on one forum where the "like" button gives two options- "like" and "thanks".
That split could give a hierarchy, with the softer "likes" more appropriate for threads like "what is this chicken thinking", and "thanks" for ones that are more technically helpful.

I like the system the way it is. Even now, you can spend an hour or more writing a nice educational post.
Many times the newcomers don't understand how to give an ovation. And you can't ask for one. So
they just give a happy face instead. I think if you split the system, this will get even more pronounced.
It's nice when you spend a couple of hours researching and posting an educational post to at least have
the chance someone might give you an ovation. A split system will reduce the odds even more.
Best,
Karen

I like this concept. The familiar "thumbs-up" graphic would be good for "Like". Ideas on what might be a good icon for "Thanks"?

I agree with you, I have written educational posts that took me a good hour to come up with info and try to make it understandable and all I get is a Happy face, which is nice and all but wont actually count numerically..

Questin, can I post how many Ovations I have? or would that be braking the rules...
