What Is The Most Common Breed To Go Broody ?

The breed that most commonly goes broody is the silkie. Any breed can become broody, though. It is the natural instinct of a chicken.

I got some buff ameraucanas from John Blehm in Michigan last year.

Every one of them has gone broody at least twice, and two of them have gone broody three times since they were born about 17 months ago.

One of the little ladies is hatching babies as I write this. I've found one of the empty egg shells, and am listening to her cooing and some little cheeping as I write this.

Ive heard Buff Orpingtons are one of the best breeds to go broody. Thats one of the main reason that i got one. Another is because IMO they are a gorgeous breed.

Silkie.

I have one brooding right now. It's 27 degrees at night, and she wants babies.

:p be warned, they're not the brightest crayon in the box ;)

I had a bantam Cochin go broody at just 5 months old, hatched me out one little roo 3 weeks ago.. I only let her have one egg; just to let her be a mommy but didn't want chicks this close to fall... Thanks stupid silkie lol ;)
