I live in Australia. From my own experience I have seen bantam silkies and Silkies the size of small dogs lol. So that's what I was talking about with the different breeds. I  own 3 LF Silkies which give my mum's Rhode Island Reds a run for their money :p

I have some coming this week...I am really looking forward to this breed.  I have 2 silkie/bcm mixes still young about 11 wks but one is so stinking sweet...but o so small..  they are both the size of my other LF 4 wk olds!  One has crowed so I know is a roo and is not mean but also not so nice.  The other I believe is a roo too but again, so so sweet.  Loves to be held and just nestles that little head, stretching out its neck as far as it can to then close its eyes!

When I was 5 years old, my mom always told me happiness was the key to life.  When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down "happy".  They told me I didn't understand the assignment and I told them they didn't understand life....

I was gifted with some BCM/Silkie mix chicks which are now laying. Although the Silkie mom was white, all her chicks were black. The BCM side also made them larger than most silkies I've seen, but smaller than my fat fluffy gals. Two of four of these "Milkies" have JUST gone broody and they only started laying a month ago.

Oh, and they roost in the trees, when not being broody. Yes, they fly quite well.

But they're out in rainy weather, too.

Buncha Outdoor PET chickens, ducks, two Toulouse ganders, and four turkeys. Plus 2 wiener dogs, some bunnies and a rescue cat which owns me. Oh. And a house silkie....

Hahahaha! My silkies are equally as ridiculous. I always have to rush outside when it's raining because they will just stand there and allow themselves to get soaked.

They also love baths- especially the blow drying part. They trill in happiness lol

Okay so it looks like it is not just my flock of Silkies that stays out in the rain.  I too have noticed that they are so easy to bathe they almost fall asleep and don't mind the blow-dryer.........Such incredibly sweet-natured birds!

This thread is cracking me up.  My silkie (Muppet) stands out in the rain too.  She is probably out there right now, soaking wet (probably for the last 8 hours), while I sit here at work. I don't know how many times I've had to blow dry that bird since the temperatures fell last fall.

My silkie isn't a swimmer, but she does love to drink out of the water hose! Whenever I water plants she comes running. I turn down the hose to a trickle so she can ger her drink, and then she's happy. Such a funny girl!

yes dont leave your chickens wet blow dry them , keep them inside your house NOT outside or they can get a chillD.gif
