Augsburger Thread!

I've only been able to hear them about three times and I haven't been close enough to identify which of the three boys were sounding off. It wasn't very loud and I'm glad to hear that they do so fairly little. Just enough to know everything works the way it should.

I love my augsys. Hands down, there my best laying breed. Has anyone other than greenfire imported these birds in? Are there any blues in the US yet

I have a silkie incubating some Auggie eggs for me right now. Hoping for a new batch of chicks in about 16 days. I love my Auggie rooster since he is the most gentle roo I've ever had. I'll hate it when I have to make room for a new one to bring in new blood to the line. His only fault is that he crows too early in the morning. That and he only has a single comb but I hope to get some chicks with the double since I have a hen that is double.

Good luck on your hatch! Do you let your silkie raise them and if so does it seem to make them less skittish. My roo is very gentle but bolts for the door that I have to shut behind me as soon as I go into there coop. He starts his crowing at 6 on the dot each morning lol... and the other roos follow suit with a crow off of sorts..lol

I let the silkie do her thing without interrupting her. I don't even know exactly how many eggs she has since I know she took some after others laid their eggs. I make sure that the chickens and chicks see me as a food dispenser and that helps with the skittishness. My current roo is so good with the cornish cross chicks that I have, I've seen him heard them around to make sure that they don't go off where the don't need to be. So cool.

Does anyone have pictures of the duplex comb on chicks? I read in the thread that it can be seen when hatched and since I just invested heavily in this breed I would like more pictures and information. There really isn't a lot out there.

I'm wanting to add Augsburgers to my Wyandottes and Bresses, more as a rare heritage breed and their beauty than as a BYC "production" bird, anyone here in this thread have chicks or hatching eggs? Don't need any right now but I'd like to have them by March or so.
