I posted thin in a nother thred but thought you all might want to see it .

So you say you use a extension cord eh! check these pictures out.

this was on my pool last summer the two ends were fused together.

also one time i was on a job sight we had a cord plugged into the generator all of a sudden the generator rev ed up like it was under a heavy load we looked and there were two foot flames shooting out of the end. I eliminated all my extension cords for this reason. Be careful

Scary! I have an extension running quite a distance from the house to the coop to power the heat lamp in the brooder.... the heat lamp and the extension cord both are probably fire hazards....

Extension cords are not intrinsically unsafe. The proper gauge wire for the load and the distance involved and proper grounding and the use of ground fault current interrupters address the concerns about overheating and shorts.

I commonly use an extension cord for my water supply heater in the winter. It is 12 gauge, plugged into a ground fault current interrupter protected circuit.

One cannot simply take a cheap 16 gauge extension cord, 100 feet long, and plug it into any load safely.

A generator failure such as described is typical of a ground fault. The generator tries to match the load to ground. Unfortunately, it can pump infinite power into the earth. If not load protected, it will go into overspeed and fail. Wiring attached to it can fail, too, in the process.

Electricity is a wonder tool, but is dangerous when not used properly.
