Foot and leg injury thread

Hi Beakz,
My Leghorn scraped her leg on something last year. Chickens do bruise a scary looking green purple color. I do wish that I had been more on top of using neosporin or ventomyicin on her leg - it seemed like a small scrape but I think it got somewhat infected. We did start neosporin on day 3 after the injury but at first left her alone, since she's a pretty skiitish chicken. Anyway, one year later she clearly has some arthritis, she has a limp that varies with the weather, keeps up fine with the flock. she's 5. Good luck!

My little 1.5 week old Auracana chick has what looks like a cut that curled back on both sides and hardened up that way. There's no blood and honestly I thought she had been pooped on by one of the other chicks but upon closer inspection realized that wasn't the case.
I got her from a feed store a few days ago and today was the first day I noticed it... She's not limping and doesn't seem to be bothered by it but I want to make sure I shouldn't be worried or doing something... Any idea of what happened here or what (if anything) I should do? I'm sorry for the horrible picture but I was having serious trouble getting her to sit still while taking the pic. It almost looks like her little bone is sticking out, but why is there no blood?

You should be a little worried if the bone is sticking out.... I mean a lot worried. Definitely see a vet and clean it. After you clean it spray vetricyn and wrap (not too tight, if it turns red unwrap it imeasiately and losen it) it with "vet wrap" until you can get medical advice from your local vet. Good luck and I hope the little guy heals fast!

Wow, crisis averted!! Good news... No broken toes. We took a good soak and the hardened jerky type whatever-ness came off along with a piece of wood that looked like bone!! No wounds thank goodness. Phew.
