My one duckling has been having problems for almost a week now. He is 4 weeks old. Most likely niacin dif. No one around here sells stuff for ducks and I can't find B3 or a pure niacin. I ordered brewers yeast but it's not here yet. How long until I see improvement and will it recover completely from this?

Most Walmarts carry vitamins but once you start him on the Brewers yeast it can take 2-5 days before you notice improvement.

What are his symptoms please?

Seizures, right leg not working ( can't stand or walk ), bad aim when eating or drinking, difficulty going potty( straining ), and weak neck. He wouldn't eat for a couple days. I skimmed some duck weed off our pond and added fresh grass clippings and cracked corn. He's eating some but not a lot.

When feeding anything but crumble always offer grit. Okay sounds pretty serious any chance of a vet? You are offering what for support besides the greens and cracked corn. Cracked corn is basically like candy not too much nutritional value. Do you offer a complete feed as well?

He won't touch the feed anymore. He's eating a lot more of the duck weed. I'm putting vitamin supliment and B complex in his water until the brewers yeast gets here. I will try to give him grit today when I get home. I'm putting some in with the feed for the others.

Just put some grit into a separate bowl they will eat it as needed. I'm pretty sure duck weed has alot of nutritional value but he also needs a complete feed, try making a warm mash out of a small amounts with a teaspoon of ACV added to the warm water then mix into his feed, maybe making it into a warm mash will get him to eating. Is he drinking good. My computer went nuts on Wed night so just now getting back on line, How is he today?

I think he's getting a little better. He can stand but still has trouble with maneuvering. This morning I mixed feed with brewers yeast and a little grit. He ate a little then went back to the duck weed. I put B complex and vitamin supplement in his water so I'm ok with his progression. He's getting what he needs. I don't want to pressure him and stress him out. He didn't seize while I was with him last night so that's great in my book. I'm picking up some Flock Raiser from the store tonight after work since I'm almost out of the Dumor brand I was buying. I'm going to continue with the brewers yeast for the others a while longer just to be sure they are good.

Slow progress is better than no progress so happy your seeing progress. I use Flock Raiser I think it's good feed.

Ok, my ducks are seven weeks old today. I finally got them into the pond for the first time. I had to use Little One as a lure because they didn't want to go too far from the coop. I wanted to let Little One go in with them so badly, but his feathers still haven't come in enough yet. Is this part of his niacin def. along with stunted growth? I give him B complex and brewers yeast. I rotate them so he doesn't get sick of it. He can walk and run but he still has some issues. I don't think they are going to away. But I don't understand why his feather growth is so far behind. Is there anything I can do to help with this?
