Can chickens have milk?

My mother used to feed milk ( it was left over milk from getting pig food) she would mix it into their feed or pellets, mash bread etc. They loved it and sometimes she would add youghurt, they loved that as well. however they seemed to keep getting sinus infections ( in the Bantams mainly) and so I would make up their feed without the milk. it was also bad when they put their entire faces in it as it clung to their feathers and started to smell really bad. I doubt your chickens will drink it if you leave out a dish, they might try it but I doubt they will lap it up like a cat or dog. you could try mixing a little dilutely into their food and see. Personally I just give mine some cheese ( grated or soft) because I know they can eat it and not get it everywhere, It also smells better and doesn't clog up their sinuses

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

They can have a bit of it, but chickens don't have the enzymes to digest milk and can cause them digestive issues. You might want to use Almond Milk or some sort to lactose free milk for them.

Good luck with your flock and welcome to ours!

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. You've received some good advice from the other members. I would severely limit the amount of milk you give them. Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. What kind of chickens do you have?

Thx everyone for your help I've put out a little bit but they don't seem to like it so I think I will put milk of the list of treats. My chickens are hybrids one of them is what the breeders called a golden speckled hen and the other is a blue maran cross she's very pretty!
