ANOTHER EGG MISSING!!!!!

OH I AM SO FRUSTRATED!!!! we started with the peahen on 5 eggs now we are down to 3 eggs....I am not sure when she laid them or how far along they are but every few days it seems that another egg is missing.....I dont want to put them in the incubator because I dont know how much longer they need to be in there.....AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

what would you do??!??!??!?!?

Depends on how badly I wanted chicks. I have had this happen on a couple of occasions and I always left the eggs with the hen, not a single one ever made it to hatch. When it happened with mine there was always some yolk on the remaining eggs and I didn't want that in my Bator. Second time it happened it turned out the hen was breaking and eating the eggs herself.

Don't know what the cause was the other times.
 
We just went through this with a duck nest. It started with twelve duck eggs and two chicken eggs. First the two chicken eggs disappeared, then two duck eggs would be gone every couple of days. I put a live trap near the nest, we keep about five traps set all the time, and never caught anything, well except a hen.. That trap is still set and nothing has taken the bait, (two eggs).

I assume that since there was no traces of shell being left behind that it was probably a snake. If it had been a coon there should have been shell at the waters edge but there wasn't.

Perhaps you can make a pen around her? It would be tough to keep a snake out but you could rule everything else out.
 
Predators will return as long as they have free access to a food choice, so pretty soon there won't be any eggs left... and you may end up losing the Hen as well.
IMO, it's way less stress to have to worry about the remaining 3 eggs in the incubator than losing a Hen that has the potential to lay more eggs for many seasons to come.

X - 2 !! I would pull the eggs too.
