Service Dog Support Group

This is a thread for those, like me, who have service dogs. All types of service dogs are accepted; mobility, psychiatric, alert... Everyone (and their dog) is welcome! Feel free to vent. All information is voluntary. If someone asks more information than you like, please feel free to say no. There will be no judgement. This thread is open to everyone; whether you're just curious about service dogs, have one, or are looking into getting one.

My SD is a PSD (psychiatric service dog) for severe anxiety and panic attacks. My panic attacks are so bad I become literally paralyzed. Jazmine is trained to detect panic attacks as well as help me ride them through. She also will put herself in between myself and another person if she feels me getting nervous.

A few days ago, I was told by a fabric store that I had to carry my service dog in there "because... Ya know... Fabric..." I complied as I was having a fairly relaxed evening, however I did tell her that I didn't need to and if she missed an alert that would be a lawsuit. My service dog may be small (shih tzu) but she has a huge job.

Dogs are awesome! Service Dogs, awesomer, I guess would be the way to put it.

So glad to hear not only that you're coping, but that you have a beloved friend there to help as well. Too cool.

I know a SD. She is incredible! We did some volunteer work down at our no kill shelter. She takes care of an older man with Alzheimer's. I was there one day when they came in for shots. She spoke to me. I didn't get it at first, so she wouldn't let me out of the corner. She TOLD me. And she let me out when she saw that I got it. I literally asked her 'is something wrong?' And she let me out.

We took him home to his family. She stayed quietly at his side the entire time.

Service dogs are a blessing from God. All dogs are but there are some that truly shine. She stole my heart that night.

That's amazing! Jazzy is currently working on handing stuff to people; credit cards, ADA cards, etc. That dog sounds wonderful; some dogs just know what to do.

One day, I was with Jazzy at a freind's clients' house. Two elderly woman who used to have a dog similar to mine, and they were talking about how their dog used to sing. She asked if my dog does that, and I responded, "she hasn't been trained to.." And the woman said "Sing!" And jazzy started howling. The women had tears in their eyes, and jazzy hasn't done it since. Dogs truly amaze me sometimes.

Sadie is trained to listen. He has to tell her what's going on. When he is having a fit, he forgets. He starts doing things without telling her. She knows something is wrong.

But you remind me of Fluffy. A dog from my youth. My ex-in laws. She blessed her food. Blew me away!! Give her her bowl, she bows with her head on her paws, closes her eyes and growls. Then she eats. I loved that dog.

They couldn't figure out why she always ran to me first. Crazy dog. It was some kind of hairy chihuahua.

Jazzy sounds awesome! Dogs are the best!! Better than some humans, i think.
