That's one breed I've never raised. You have a great barn to use for years to come. I would leave vent open year round here in Pennsylvania. I do plastic my windows to keep wind out

That is one of the methods I intend to use... plastic covered windows. Plus, I hope to be able to make a sort of green house area for sun bathing in the winter within the individual yards.
As far as the roof vent is concerned, I need to see how the air moves inside the barn once everything is up. I plan to be able to close the vent off, if only at night to try and keep the ambient temperatures inside a little warmer... I think also having the males with the females will help with their combs and the frostbite issue so we will see about that.
